The launch of any new Corvette is significant, and the new-for-2014 C7 model launching this year brings sweeping changes, including upgraded performance and a more contemporary, international styling language. To mark the car’s debut, Chevrolet is prepping the Corvette Stingray Coupe Premiere Edition—and just 500 will be built.
While the engine and the transmission options remain unchanged, the Premiere Edition isn’t going to be hard to pick out of a lineup. There are Stingray logos on the center caps of the chrome wheels and on the sill plates, a prominent “stinger” stripe on the hood, and Vette-branded luggage designed by Thule. Based on the top-level 3LT trim, the Premiere Vette comes only in Laguna Blue and features brown faux suede upholstery and interior trim, as well as the carbon-fiber trim décor package and an exposed carbon-fiber roof.
The 500 examples can also be identified by their VIN numbers, the run of which starts with 300001, and by an individually numbered plaque on the dashboard. Tire-munching performance is guaranteed by the 460-hp, LT1 small-block V-8 as well as the standard Z51 performance package. A variable exhaust system ensures the full attention of neighbors and bystanders. Since the Premiere Editions have the performance exhaust, the 460-hp Corvettes will hit 60 mph in a Chevrolet-estimated 3.8 seconds, brake from that speed to a stop in 107 feet, and hit 1.03 g in lateral acceleration.
If we were in the market for a C7, we’d be taking a hard look at one of these, but we’re not. You, however might be, in which case we’d advise you to but one because these future collectibles are surely going to be snapped up quickly and hold much better value than other years or non numbered editions.
